No matter how digital our world gets, does it ever feel like you still deal with a lot of paperwork? Due to industry requirements, federal regulations, and the like, a lot of our more sensitive information needs to be stored or distributed on physical media. Tax returns, medical records, lease/rental agreements for homes and cars - a lot of our daily lives still take place on old-fashioned paper documents, even if it feels like the rest of the world only exists in emails and PDFs. The problem with paper documents, however, is that they take up a lot of space, and eventually they need to go somewhere. The average American uses about 680 pounds of paper per person each year, and a significant portion of that is considered to be sensitive information. Think things like credit card bills, bank statements, even just utility bills with your address and personal information on it - it's impractical to just hold onto these things indefinitely, but you need to be careful about how they're disposed of. Shredding is considered one of the easiest and fastest ways to dispose of these documents in a way that doesn't put your personal information at risk of being misused, but not everyone has easy access to a shredder these days. Luckily, a local credit union is here to help. US Eagle Federal Credit Union is once again offering Shred Day, a series of events to help people in our community dispose of their sensitive documents in a safe and sustainable fashion. Every weekend from October 8 to October 30 2021, US Eagle will offer shredding services at various locations throughout the Greater Albuquerque area, allowing residents of the area to take advantage of their document disposal methods. Membership to US Eagle is not required to participate in Shred Day, as the events are open to all residents of Greater Albuquerque, and each Shred Day event is free to participate in! During each Shred Day event, US Eagle will be taking optional donations towards various charities in the community. At events held at US Eagle branch locations, optional cash donations will be taken for a fundraising effort aimed towards helping people in the Albuquerque area who have been affected financially by the pandemic to pay their rent and mortgage (with more information coming soon from US Eagle). Additionally, during the event at The Food Depot (a Northern New Mexico food bank), nonperishable food items will be accepted as well. All donors will be given a reusable US Eagle tote or Shred Day bag.
