Manchester Drops Pink Bags, Pushes Charity and DPW Bins Instead

MANCHESTER, CT — Forget the pink recycling bags in Manchester. Town officials Wednesday said Manchester has "discontinued" its partnership with Simple Recycling and the curbside Pink Bag textile recycling program, effectively immediately. No other explanation was given. Officials instead turned to both municipal and charitable bins for donations of clothing and other thrift store type items. Officials said the Manchester Department of Public Works offers alternatives for residents who would like to continue recycling textiles. Textiles can be brought to the Transfer Station at 311 Olcott Street during operating hours — Monday through Saturday from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., they said. The department will "continue to pursue additional resources," for donation options, officials said. Town officials also encouraged residents to use the local non-profit organizations and thrift stores that accept textile donations and the various drop boxes in town. "Recycling textiles is crucial in helping increase space in the landfill," officials said. "Reducing greenhouse gases and the costs of municipal waste disposal."
