Shooting Suspect Identified, 2 Victims Critically Injured: Police

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Two people were shot on Wednesday morning in Fredericksburg. The victims, who police only identified as a man and a woman, are in critical condition, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department. Now, authorities are looking for the suspect, who they identified as 32-year-old Jeffery Brown. "Brown is considered armed and dangerous," the police department wrote. "If you see him, do not approach him and call the police immediately." Fredericksburg's 9-1-1 call center received the report of a shooting around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The reported shooting occurred in the 1100 block of Tuckahoe Drive at the Valor Apartments, police said. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds, according to an update posted to Facebook by the police department. The responding officers provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived. On Thursday, both victims were still hospitalized in critical condition. The police department said more information would be released as their investigation continues. Earlier in the summer, Fredericksburg Police Chief Brian Layton urged residents not to resort to violence. "Over the last few months, the City of Fredericksburg has seen instances of violent crime stemming from gun violence like most cities across the country," Layton said. "Gun violence doesn't just impact victims and offenders; it affects families, children, loved ones – gun violence impacts our entire community."
