$7.87M Cal Fire Grants Awarded In East Bay

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Cal Fire announced $138 million in local fire prevention grants this week, including $7.87 million for projects in the East Bay. The money will be used for things such as fuel reduction, wildfire planning and fire prevention education. Here's a list of East Bay grants: $6.3 million — Moraga-Orinda Fire District to create a fuel break. $773,000 — East Bay Regional Park District for wildfire risk mapping. $493,000 — Diablo Fire Safe Council for hazardous fuel reduction around homes. $224,000 — Oakland Public Works for Skyline Boulevard evacuation route tree clearing. "This year, wildfires have once again been extremely severe and damaging, which only highlights our continued need to perform more community-based fire prevention projects," said Chief Thomas Porter, CAL FIRE director. In all, Cal Fire awarded close to $138 million across the state. The award to Moraga-Orinda is the largest in the Bay Area.
