EL CAJON, CA — Authorities Wednesday released the name of a teenage boy who died in a hospital three weeks after being gravely injured in a predawn El Cajon car crash that also killed another 16-year-old.
Jiovanni Solorio Roman of San Diego was pronounced dead at Rady Children's Hospital Friday morning, the county Medical Examiner's Office reported.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 21, Jiovanni was riding in an eastbound 2018 Honda Civic that veered off Navajo Road near Fletcher Parkway at high speed, struck a light pole, overturned and became engulfed in flames, according to police.
The high school senior driving the vehicle, Gady Cruz of El Cajon, died at the scene of the accident, and his three passengers, including Jiovanni, were hospitalized with serious trauma.
