PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island reached another COVID-19 pandemic milestone this week. As of Thursday, just over 700,000 residents were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. That represents just under two-thirds of all Rhode Island residents, or approximately 74 percent of those aged 12 and older, who are eligible to get vaccinated. Throughout the summer, Gov. Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Department of Health urged all eligible Rhode Islanders to get vaccinated as soon as possible, using the governor's new vaccine slogan: "It's time." So how far does Rhode Island have to go to vaccinate every eligible resident? According to the Department of Health's vaccine countdown, there are still 144, 268 Rhode Islanders who are eligible to get a vaccine, but have an unknown vaccine status. (Rhode Island Department of Health)That number will likely rise in the coming months, with the federal Food and Drug Administration expected to approve COVID-19 vaccines for children under 12 years old. If you're eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine and haven't gotten on yet, find a free clinic near you using the state's COVID-19 vaccine site locator.
