CLAIRTON, PA — Another Pittsburgh-area high school football game will be played without fans Friday following the slaying of a teen last weekend at the Haunted Hills Hayride in North Versailles. The Clairton City and Leechburg school districts announced Thursday that the game between their respective high schools would be shifted from Clairton to Leechburg, and that the game would be played with no fans in attendance. The decision was made "under an abundance of caution...the safety of our students, staff and entire community and surrounding communities is our number one priority," a message on the Clairton district website stated. Clairton Superintendent Ginny Hunt told Triblive the moves were directly related to the hayride shooting. On Wednesday, the Penn Hills School District announced it was banning fans from its home game Friday against Woodland Hills after consulting with the district's law enforcement contacts and violence prevention experts. The decision came four days after Steven Eason, 15, of Wilmerding, was shot in the chest and stomach after attempting to intervene in a dispute at the hayride between an acquaintance and another teen who shot them both. Eason died from his wounds; the other teen, a Penn Hills student, was shot in the shoulder but survived the shooting. Allegheny County police are continuing to investigate the incident.
