ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a gun violation, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, a swerving car and a gift card scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Gun violation Joanne A. Fargas, 45, of Bellwood, was arrested about 11 a.m. Monday on a charge of violating the concealed carry law. She was released on bond. According to a police report, a 9mm Smith&Wesson handgun was found in a bathroom at Edward-Elmhurst clinic, 172 Schiller St. Fargas told police she forgot her gun in the bathroom and did not see the "no firearms" sign on the door of the clinic. Domestic battery Harold Fields Jr., 43, of Wood Dale, was arrested about 11 p.m. Sept. 11 in the 500 block of West Lake Street on two counts of domestic battery. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, Fields pushed and punched a woman and took her keys and cellphone. The suspect fled before police arrived. An officer saw a scratch on the woman's heel and redness and swelling to the right side of her face. Warrant Amanda Wenmouth, 28, of Downers Grove, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Lake on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant. She was released on bond. Driving violations Emmett Hankey, 25, of Chicago, was arrested shortly after midnight Wednesday at York and Lake on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver and no rear license plate light. He was released on bond. Antonio Vasquez-Castillo, 32, of Carol Stream, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at North and Highview on an Elgin Police Department warrant and on charges of driving with an expired license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond. Disorderly conduct Robert Kaye, 22, of Oak Brook, was cited about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of South York on a charge of disorderly conduct (public intoxication). He was released on bond. According to a police report, officers responded to a report of a man attempting to enter several vehicles. Fugitive drivers An officer saw a newer model black Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with dark tinted windows and two red stripes on the front side fenders about 2:30 a.m. Monday at Poplar and May. The vehicle matched the description of one that was used in Oakbrook Terrace to elude an officer. After the Elmhurst officer saw the vehicle, the driver headed east on Interstate 290. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Chicago after being involved in a hit-and-run traffic crash in the same area. After police got a call about suspicious activity at a nearby ATM, an officer tried to stop a car for expired registration about 8:30 p.m. Monday at St. Charles and Route 83. The man stopped, but then sped away, heading south on Route 83. The suspect was described as black, 20 years old, 6 feet, 175 pounds, having black hair and brown eyes, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Obscene messages A resident in the 900 block of South Hillcrest Avenue told police Tuesday about receiving multiple texts containing obscene messages from an unknown person. An officer attempted to contact the person, but was unsuccessful. The resident requested the incident be documented. Swerving car A man informed police that a car swerved toward him as he was running about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of East Park Avenue. The man and the driver then had an argument. An investigation is pending. Gift card scam A resident in the 800 block of South Saylor Avenue told police Wednesday that someone called him and purported to be from Microsoft. The person asked him to buy gift cards and provide the numbers. The resident complied with the request and provided the person with the gift card numbers. The resident later discovered it was a scam. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
