Fulton Superintendent Tests Positive For Coronavirus: Officials

FULTON COUNTY, GA — Fulton County Schools Superintendent Mike Looney has tested positive for the coronavirus, district officials confirmed on Thursday. Looney has mild symptoms and is "feeling much better", according to district spokesman Brian Noyes. Looney has received the COVID-19 vaccine. Thursday will mark Looney's final day of quarantine, and he is fever and symptom free, Noyes said. "He plans to return to the office and follow all physical distancing guidelines," Noyes said. It is unknown how Looney contracted the virus. On Aug. 11, the district updated its mask policy for students, staff and visitors. All cities within the Fulton County Schools jurisdiction are now above 100 per 100,000 positive COVID-19 cases. According to the new data, all cities are being identified as high community spread by public health officials. The requirement to wear a mask indoors was extended to all schools, which began on Aug. 12. Since then, several grade levels at various Fulton schools have been required to shift to remote learning due to an increase of cases.
