Description
What's up guys! My name is Rick Land, and for the large majority of my adult life I've been a professional, live guitar player. I've been in every type of band imaginable and have played stages in front of 5,000+ people opening for major label acts....and have played for 5 people in a bar the following night. In either case, it was the only thing that ever brought me pure joy. I'm originally from Atlantic City, NJ and moved to Philly to form a band and open a studio with my best friend and drummer, and do both of those things we did....and then Covid hit. The landlord terminated the lease on the studio, the band stopped practicing, and life happened to my best friend. I coped by completely dedicating myself to my day job, being a full time music teacher over Zoom to students all over the country. Leading up to all of that, I was previously in a rock band that was signed to a label in New York (we broke up before finishing the record). I played guitar for a country band, and we played with some of the biggest names in Nashville, and a lot of venues I grew up dreaming of playing. The singer decided to move to Nashville, and I decided not to go with him. Seems like a lot of disappointment for one decade...but it was a good time! Now at 29 years old, I'm ready to get back to it. I consider myself extremely lucky that I get to teach guitar but something is missing. I miss more than anything, the camaraderie that comes with being in a band of like minded musicians and creating. I miss the rush of setting up for a live show, the rumble under my feet when I rip into a power chord during soundcheck at the Starland Ballroom, I miss music. I didn't start this ad with a therapy session in mind, but I guess it feels good to finally type this out, even if I don't get a single response. My influences include: Black Sabbath, Coheed and Cambria, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Wes Montgomery, Al Di Meola, Randy and Zakk..the list goes on. I would characterize my style as a jazz influenced, in your face rock lead guitar player and I'm opened to all styles of music. I Play Gibson Les Pauls through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (the most magical combo in music). I would like to be in a band that inspires me to be better, and would prefer to be the worst musician in the band. If your band could use somebody like me to be a part of the team, or you're a singer or drummer looking to start something in Philly.. email or text me
