Parks Services is now hiring all crew positions - lawn, landscape, horticulture/gardening, landscape construction, spray techs. Please see below for a list of positions we are hiring for as well as required and preferred qualifications. Pay will depend upon position, experience and qualifications. Please be ready to discuss your experience, pay requirements, available schedule when calling (or if called). Typical hours Mon-Fri, some Saturdays, weather depending. Typical days are 8 hrs or more. Some accommodations may be made. Most positions will report daily to the main office in Troy (or alternatively depending on the position, experience, direct report to Rochester Hills or Hamtramck/Detroit but there is limited availability at these sites). Must be on time and show up for every shift scheduled. Must have reliable cell phone. Must be able to follow directions, get along with all types of people and conduct themselves professionally. No drama. If you do not drive, you must have reliable transportation that will get you to and from work without exception. Lawn and Landscape Maintenance Crew : Should have 1 year of experience doing similar work, willing to train the right candidates but candidates must have some knowledge on lawn and landscape and be willing and able to learn. Must be professional, take direction well, fast learner, accountable for their work. Residential and commercial experience a plus. Must be able to handle equipment such as mowers, whippers, etc and handle the physical capabilities of such work as riding machinery safely for extended period of time and follow safety procedures. Duties will include lawn mowing, edging, trimming, weed whipping, cleanups, light weeding. May incl shrub and small tree trimming when experienced. Shift begins at 7am. Weeding/ Bed Maintenance Crew : Should have 1+ year of experience doing similar work but willing to train the right candidates. Must be able to conduct themselves professionally, take direction well, fast learner, be accountable for their work. Experience working on both commercial and residential sites a plus. Must have the physical capabilities to perform the job as it requires kneeling, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time. Duties will include manual weeding to maintain landscape beds and other preventative and ongoing maintenance to maintain weed free sites. Plant knowledge is a plus and will need to be learned. May incl shrub and tree trimming when experienced. Shift begins at 7am. Horticultural Foreman : Must have at least 3 years of experience in the industry and at least 1 year of experience in a leadership role. MUST HAVE VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE. Must be able to lead a crew, get along with everyone, conduct themselves professionally with their team and customers. Must keep accurate records and reports. Must be able to train crew members. Takes responsibility for their own crew and the jobs they are working for. Must have a horticultural background, proven knowledge and experience with plants/flowers/weeds. Shift begins at 7am. Lawn Maintenance Foreman: Same qualifications as above. Plus the technical hands on experience with all lawn maintenance equipment and machinery. Shift begins at 7am. Commercial Spray Technician: Licensed technician to spray herbicide, fertilizer on both residential and commercial sites. Must have valid drivers license. Must keep current with their licenses and certifications as required by the State of MI. Must have working cell phone and ability to work with a mobile app and therefore will need some technology knowledge. Must be able to prioritize, self manage their time, be accountable for their sites, work autonomously and with a team.
