Description
Hey all, I’m James. I sing and make music. I need help learning the ins & outs of Logic Pro X, particularly mixing & mastering. I know the basics of recording, but I want to to get the hang of finishing tracks at a high level of art and quality as quickly as I can, using templates and other tools for speed & ease. I’ll also need help implementing a lot of other things I learn better from real people than from YouTube, so I’m offering $35 an hour for someone fluent in Logic who explains things clearly and can go along with my unusual workflow. We'll sit together at my Mac for a few hours at a time, a handful of times, until I get to a good level of intuitive skill. Vocals are huge for me. I’ll need you to help me with good vocal recording/EQing techniques. My voice has a commanding presence in the right context and it needs proper treatment. You should also understand the musical textures I like. My music is kind of a hypnotic soul influenced by post-punk, hip-hop, trip-hop, jazz, R&B, exotica/tiki, sludge/desert/doom, Kanye, Tom Waits, QOTSA, Morphine,.. It’s contemplative, melodic, warm, minimal, rhythmic, earthy, raw but smooth, haunting but benevolent, thick but spacious. I believe in melody and simplicity, and rich texture. I sing and play baritone guitar, electric ukulele, percussion, keys, and more. I love slapback delay. All my drum sounds are samples of myself; they’re totally unique every time. All this to say: I’m really particular about sound and I need you to get where I’m coming from so you can help me produce, mix & master my music artfully and efficiently. Other big things I need to learn: making the most of the stock plugins; how to build around a LOOP using Logic’s looping function; bussing; how to mix groups of layered tracks like choir vocals, sax, drums; slowing audio down; fixing noise anomalies; dithering; metadata; putting my own sounds into a synth; backing up Logic files and using them on another computer. Many more questions will come up - just go with my flow. We'll take the time we need. Are you an expert in the things I listed, especially mixing & mastering for a vocal-centered style? Does my described style make sense to you? Do you live for simplicity and clarity? Text me (don't email, I'm slow there) and tell me about yourself. I’ll set up quick video calls with everyone who seems good and will choose quickly thereafter, then you'll come to my place in Frogtown. I’m vaccinated, and I wouldn’t care whether you are except I’m visiting my slowly-dying mother soon and want zero risks, so tell me if you are (I hate even saying that but it's for my mom). Looking forward to getting moving on this. Thanks in advance guys. James
