Description
Do you need a reliable musician with an accurate ear and the right feels? Thank you for checking out my music bio. I am experienced on either 1) drum kit; 2) bass; 3) guitars/keyboards; or 4) just keys. Also leads or harmonies as needed. As detailed below, my experience of styles played includes Rock, Pop, Folk, Blues, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Reggae, Ska, Punk, and some Jazz as well. In the 1990's as a teen, I rubbed elbows with some major pros early on in their pre-careers. I played BASS or GUITAR with a Retro-Funk crew and another that was Third-Wave Ska. We taped many jams then I worked more closely with one of their key collaborators, Don Bonus. We had a few bands performing together all over the NYC-LI area. I played DRUMS or BASS, sometimes KEYS, plus VOCAL harmonies. Around 2000, I was in a rap-metal cover band strictly as the KEYBOARD player. We played parties mostly but also stages like Coney Island High on St. Marks Place. This was right when one member was already in major label and indie label groups. As we were a side project, R.E. played a LOT of Sabbath riffs and long jams;) In the 2000's, for DRUMS, I marched in countless summer parades on wide-ranging percussion, originally hired on Glockenspiel. I became the regular on the Quintuple Toms after a few years. Members of that band included a Tony Nominee musical director, and a trumpeter that collaborated with the great Ornette Coleman on an album. Around 2010, for guitars and keys, I worked with another ex-signed pro around NYC (a NYHC drummer). Add VOCAL harmonies again. We did hard-rock like Priest, Metallica and AC/DC mostly, but also alt rock like Sublime and Nirvana. We partnered in booking out studio time for about a year and one member was crazy talented, collaborating with a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra at the time! From 2015-2017, I sung LEAD VOCALS and handled KEYS and BASS in a few rock cover bands here in Reno. I am currently working in more jazz harmony to my playing, and I am also refining my swing timing on piano. *Don Bonus was a key founder of Antibalas, and one-third of Desco Records. Desco was the soul-funk precursor label to Daptone. From him and others in that scene, I learned basic riffs and changes like Beatles and Jimi tunes, Funkadelic licks, James Brown changes and even Reggae feels from them very early on, before I even knew what a E9 chord was, or the harmonic implications of bending a third in a bluesy way. So I give them credit, they gave me a lot of my music foundation.
