Description

Paint Steam Engine #9 The Mill Valley Historical Society invites children and their families to come to the Mill Valley Lumber Yard so the children can help paint a full-size model of historic Engine No. 9 on Sept. 18, Sept. 25, and Oct. 2 – all Saturdays – from 11am to 2pm. Engine No. 9 is a 100-year-old steam engine that is the only surviving piece of the once world-famous Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Railway. Local organizations including the Historical Society recently purchased the actual Engine No. 9 at auction and are now working to restore it. In the meantime, to highlight Mill Valley’s railroad history and to help find a future home for Engine No. 9, the life-size model will be displayed at locations around Mill Valley. The Mill Valley Historical Society is a nonprofit public benefit corporation who's pupose is: “… to gather, catalog and preserve the records and memorabilia relating to the City of Mill Valley, Marin County, California, and environs, to provide means for the dissemination of this material to the public, to celebrate the community’s historic past and changing present, and to organize Marin County residents and other persons to support these objectives.”  Now, entering its 42nd year, the Mill Valley Historical Society has a membership of over 400 and continues to serve the community through a variety of means including: Collaborating with the Mill Valley Public Library in support of the Lucretia Hanson Little History Room; Overseeing the installation of historic plaques and signage in our community; Conducting and publishing oral histories; Conducting local history tours; Publishing information about local history; Conducting an annual speaker series; Collaborating with similar organizations; Serving as a resource for those seeking information about local history; Collaborating with the City of Mill Valley to foster appreciation of our Historic and Cultural Resources. www.mvhistory.org
