Press release from the Town of Wakefield:
September 15, 2021 - 8:27am
Northeast Metro Tech High School Superintendent David DiBarri and Wakefield Police Chief Steven A. Skory report that police are currently investigating a possible social media threat against the school, located on Hemlock Road in Wakefield.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, district officials were notified by a student who reported that they heard a possible threat made by an anonymous person on Snapchat. It is unclear at this time if the threat was directed at the school. Police have spoken to the student who reported their concern and are actively investigating the situation.
After conferring with the Wakefield Police, district officials have determined that school will open at the normal time and schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at school on Wednesday. The district will continue to assist and cooperate with the Wakefield Police as they continue their investigation into the matter.
"The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is one of our top priorities and we thank the Wakefield Police Department for their assistance in this matter," said Superintendent DiBarri.
