BROOKLINE, MA — The following letter to the editor was submitted by Brookline Library Trustee Chair Michael A. Burstein. To the Town of Brookline: Ever since 1995, Gary Jones has been an elected member of the Board of Library Trustees of the Public Library of Brookline. For many years, Gary has been the senior Trustee, the Library Trustee who had served longer than any current member of the Board. As chair of the Library Trustees, it is with mixed feelings that I announce that the Trustee with whom I served longer than any other Trustee has tendered his resignation as of September 2021. For many years, Gary Jones has been a dedicated Trustee, advocating passionately for the patrons of the libraries. Gary and I often worked together to try to increase the budget for library materials and to increase the hours the three branches were open to the public. Whatever the issue, Gary was always concerned with the responsibility that the Trustees had to the residents of Brookline to ensure that the library provided the best services possible to the town.
