Elections Chief Warns About Outside Voter Group Knocking On Doors

PASCO COUNTY, FL — Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley has been receiving complaints of people representing an outside voters group knocking on residents' doors claiming to represent the county. "Our office has been made aware that individuals have begun and will continue to go to registered voters' homes throughout Pasco County to inquire and verify information for voters at that particular address and possibly inquiring if those persons voted in the 2020 general election," Corley said. "Pasco County voters need to be aware that these individuals are not affiliated with the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections office." Corley said these activities are occurring in other Florida counties as well. "We have received information from another supervisor of elections office that an individual went to a voter's home and misrepresented themselves as being with that county or the supervisor of elections office," he said. Corley said in spite of lobbying on the part of Florida supervisors of elections to keep a voter's personal information confidential, voter information including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, political party affiliation and which elections the voter participated in is public record. "Voters often contact my office with concerns about their personal information being publicly available," he said. "Voters shouldn't have to choose between protecting their personal information with exercising their constitutional right to vote." He added that his office staff will never knock on a voter's door and inquire about their voting history.
