MASSAPEQUA, NY — Organic produce lovers are in for a treat, because a new Whole Foods Supermarket is scheduled to open in Massapequa early next month.
The store, located in the Sunrise Promenade at 5214 Sunrise Highway, is scheduled to open on Oct. 6. Whole Foods says the store will have an emphasis on local products that come from the Tri-State area.
When the store opens, it will be the only Whole Foods on the South Shore. The closest other location to the area is in Garden City.
The new, 38,500-square-foot Massapequa store will feature:
A full-service coffee bar.A prepared foods section with a deli counter and hot and cold food bars.A full-service butcher that will cut steaks and debone poultry to order.Specialty cheeses, chocolates and handmade pasta.A large selection of beers, including many Long Island breweries.A bakery with custom cakes and homemade breads. To celebrate the opening of the store, Whole Foods will be making a donation to Island Harvest's "End Child Hunger" campaign. The initiative provides students with backpacks filled with fresh food. The store will also be donating $5,000 to Nassau Food Rescue, which supports food banks in the Massapequa area.
