NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Nassau is the first county in New York state to have 90 percent of its adults receive at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
According to data from the state, 90.1 percent of Nassau County adults have now received at least one dose of a vaccine. Suffolk County is at 82.5 percent, and the state as a whole is at 71.5 percent. Additionally, 76 percent of Nassau's total population (which includes children), have received at least one dose.
Not only does Nassau have the highest vaccination rate in the state, it is the second-highest vaccination rate among large counties across the country.
"Nassau County is a national model for vaccination," said County Executive Laura Curran. "I want to commend and thank our residents for stepping up to this historic challenge and doing the right thing. The vaccine is saving lives every day and Nassau is committed to keeping up our momentum."
Despite the incredibly high vaccination rate, the coronavirus is still present in the county. The highly contagious delta variant is still spreading. Nassau reported 407 new cases on Monday, which is a positivity rate of 4.2 percent.
