ATM Stolen From Downtown Newark Shop; Police Release Photos

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police have released surveillance photos of a suspect and a vehicle after someone stole an ATM from a downtown business last weekend. Here's what happened, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety: "Police responded to reports of a burglary that occurred around 3 a.m. on Branford Place. The owner of the business told officers that she closed her shop Saturday night on September 11. When she returned around noon on Sunday, shattered glass from the front door was on the ground, locks to a pull-down gate were missing and the ATM inside was gone." Newark police said that the silver-colored vehicle used in the burglary was an older-model Ford Econoline cargo van with rear and side windows, and rust on the bottom of its frame. The suspect, who fled east on Branford Place, was described as a man from 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches, with a heavy build. He was wearing a mask, a dark-blue or black pullover sweater, and red sweatpants with black footwear.
