Description

At 5:15am just east of Milburn, the Morris Essex line of NJ Transit, train 6602, struck and killed a juvenile. The victims identity has not been released. Service was suspended on two lines, said officials. There were 25 people on the train scheduled to arrive at Penn Station at 5:44am Tuesday morning. The Morris and Essex line was not running between Dover and East Orange as of 7 a.m Tuesday. Gladstone line service is also suspended. Check with NJT before making your way onto a train for full update on delays. Trains should be back on their normal schedule by Wednesday the 8th. The real story here comes with more digging. NJTransit trains struck seven people in 2020 killing three. Between 2015 and 2019 the number of pedestrians hit by NJ Transit trains in NJ jumped up by 25% while those who died from impact jumped 71%. Despite the ever evolving technology of NJTransit (said with sarcasm) pedestrian fatalities are still on the rise. No other state in the USA has as high a fatality rate from train lines. It seems as though NJ Transit may have more than just an efficiency problem. For more information on the crash and updated transit I for visit NJ.com.
