Bel Air Town Election 2021: Deadline For Candidate Filing Nears

BEL AIR, MD — Those who want to serve the town of Bel Air can run for office this fall. Two seats are up for election on the Town of Bel Air Board of Commissioners. The deadline to file for candidacy is Friday, Sept. 17. Commissioners Amy Chmielewski and Patrick T. Richards both have terms that expire in November. Chmielewski has been the mayor of the town, also known as the chair of the board, since 2019. She has filed for reelection. As of Wednesday, Richards has not. The commissioners serve four-year terms on the board. These people have filed as of Wednesday, Sept. 15, according to the town's 2021 election page: Mary F. ChanceAmy G. ChmielewskiPaula S. Etting Salaries for the commissioners are $4,800 a year and $6,000 a year for the chair. To file for candidacy, people must meet the following qualifications: Live in the town of Bel Air for six months before the electionBe a registered voter in the state of MarylandFile in person at Town Hall, 39 N. Hickory Avenue, including a $25 filing fee The Bel Air town election will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Bel Air Town Hall, 39 N. Hickory Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014. To file for candidacy, people must complete a written certificate of candidacy and financial disclosure statement with Town Clerk Michael Krantz at Town Hall on or before 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.
