Description

Press release from the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce: September 14, 2021 Six months ago, one of our brewers, Jess Mitchell, at 27 years old, was diagnosed with the breast cancer gene BRCA 2. Due to early testing from The Iowa Clinic, Jess was able to receive the necessary surgery to continue a positive quality of life. "While the past few months have been difficult, I am so lucky to have received the care and support I have. I moved here last year from California and Iowa already feels like home," said Jess Mitchell. "I hope by being an advocate and helping host this event we will raise awareness for a cause that is so prevalent." On October 10, 2021 Kinship Brewing will be hosting our first annual Fighting Through Kinship 5K. Proceeds will benefit three organizations: Can Do Cancer, Bras for the Cause and American Cancer Society Real Men Wear Pink. "The Kinship family loves Jess. And we want to do whatever we can to help educate the community on early detection and resources available. We are so fortunate to have her here to lead the charge," said Kinship Brewing owner, Zach Dobeck. If you are interested in learning more about Jess's story and participating, please visit www.kinshipbeer.com/5k/. Please contact Chris Juhl at [email protected] if you have any questions.
