MARIN COUNTY, CA — A Marin County Jail inmate died in custody earlier this week, authorities said.
The male inmate was found slumped over in his cell Monday at around 8:35 p.m., when a deputy and a nurse were making rounds to give inmates their medications, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said.
The inmate has not yet been identified.
He was the only inmate assigned to this cell, the Sheriff's Office said.
The deputy and nurse performed life-saving measures and requested the San Rafael Fire Department respond to the jail, but despite life saving measures, the inmate was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said.
The San Rafael Police Department is investigating the inmate's death at the Sheriff Office's request.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Coroners Division is handling coroner duties associated with the death.
