WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A Western Springs woman thought she got a job with a California company, but it turned out that wasn't the case, police said.
On Aug. 27, the 31-year-old woman received a job offer via email that appeared to be from Eikon Therapeutics, a biotechnology company in Hayward, California, police said. She had been looking for jobs on the internet.
In response to the offer, the woman, who lives on Wolf Road, filled out W-4 forms and gave her bank information for direct deposit, according to a police report obtained through a public records request.
The woman has since realized the job offer was a scam. She told police she contacted Eikon Therapeutics to inform it of the situation, but has not heard back. She filed a report with the police department last week.
The resident told police that she was speaking with so-called representatives of Eikon who "had accents she has never heard before," the report said. Eikon is an actual company.
She has since changed her bank account information and placed a freeze on her identifiers with credit bureaus, police said.
