PACIFICA, CA — One person died after a car went over a steep cliff and landed on a beach off Highway 1 in Pacifica on Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported before 2:30 p.m. Highway 1 was closed indefinitely in the southbound direction near the Tom Lantos Tunnels while emergency personnel respond to the scene, according to the CHP. Crews from Cal Fire CZU began a recovery operation around 4:30 p.m. at Devils Slide, where a vehicle and a body had been located a few hundred feet down. HAPPENING NOW: A recovery is underway at Devils Slide, just north of Tom Lantos Tunnel.
