NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Students across Rhode Island were notified this week that they are semifinalists in this year's National Merit Scholarship Corp. (NMSC) competition, putting them on track to pick up college scholarships at the end of this school year.
Of the 16,000 students nationwide (and about 50 in this state) picked for the semifinalist round, about half will go on to earn scholarships in the spring. The scholarships can be worth thousands of dollars each, and some are backed by major corporations, including AbbVie, Raytheon and Siemens Corp.
Here are the three North Kingstown High School students who made the semifinalist cut, according to the NMSC:
