Fatal Accident: Woman Dies Boarding BART To Dublin/Pleasanton

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Medical Examiner identified the woman who died Monday in San Francisco while attempting to board a Bay Area Rapid Transit train bound for the Dublin/Pleasanton station. Amy Adams, 41, of San Francisco was dragged onto the tracks at the Powell Street station. Surveillance footage and witness interviews indicate Adams was standing on the platform with a dog leash secured to her waist, BART said in a statement released Tuesday. She boarded the train and "at the very last second, right as the doors were closing" stepped back onto the platform, apparently waving to someone. The dog remained inside the train. The doors closed, the train departed and Adams was dragged onto the track at 3:15 p.m. Monday, BART said. The dog was not injured and did not appear to be a service animal, though investigators are examining the possibility. "This is a tragic loss of life, and we are following all safety protocols," said BART spokesperson Alicia Trost. The accident caused major delays Monday afternoon. Normal service resumed around 5:30 p.m. that day. The incident remains under investigation by BART and the National Transportation Safety Board.
