DANVILLE, CA — Tuesday is the day: It's the last day to turn your ballots in or vote in person for the gubernatorial recall election that could unseat first-term Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom. Ballots include 46 candidates who are vying for Newsom's job, including 24 Republicans, nine Democrats and 13 others. Polls and drop-off locations opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. "Voters who still have their vote-by-mail ballot can drop it off at any polling location, vote center, or ballot drop box," said California Secretary of State Shirley Weber. "If you're voting in person, you have a right to cast your ballot as long as you are in line by 8 p.m." There were 706,000 people registered to vote in Contra Costa County as of Sept. 13, according to the county elections office. If you are not registered to vote, there's still time. Same-day voter registration is available at each county election office, polling place and vote center across the state. To do so, you just need to fill out a voter registration form at the site. "[Those] ballots will be counted once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process," Weber said in a statement.
