CHICAGO — Navy Pier will welcome the return of live performances next weekend with a free outdoor festival, officials announced Tuesday.
"Chicago LIVE Again!" will include performances from Broadway in Chicago artists, Chicago Children's Choir, Chicago Shakespeare Theater and other symphony and ballet shows.
The event will run Sept. 24-25 on the East End stage at Navy Pier. After nearly a year and a half of being closed, show organizers said they are getting ready for a busy fall season.
"Never before have so many of Chicago's greatest institutions shared the stage," Navy Pier President and CEO Marilynn Gardner said Tuesday at a press conference.
The Blue Man Group even made an appearance at the Lake Stage conference Tuesday but it is not yet confirmed if the group will perform at the festival. Performances will run from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday and noon t0 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 25.
"This is a day most of us thought may never happen," said Barbara Gaines, artistic director of Chicago Shakespeare Theater. "And so everyone today is so emotional, so happy and so incredibly grateful."
As many shows in the city are doing, attendees will have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID test from the last two days to attend. Organizers said rapid testing would be available on site.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets as the Lake and East End stages do not have seating available.
