PHOENIX, AZ—Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Representative Mark Finchem for Arizona Secretary of State.
Finchem, a Republican, represents District 11 in the Arizona House of Representatives. This district includes parts of western and southern Pinal County and northeastern Pima County.
In a statement, Trump said Finchem is a "true warrior" who "is willing to say what few others had the courage to say."
Two other Republican lawmakers are vying for a spot on the ballot next November: State Representative Shawnna Block and Senator Michelle Ugenti-Rita. Incumbent Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, is leaving the position to run for governor.
As the Associated Press reports, Finchem pushed for a Republican-led review of Maricopa County votes after the 2020 presidential election and brought attorneys to Phoenix to claim the election was fraudulent.
Finchem was also photographed outside the Capitol building on January 6, the day a mob broke into the building and demanded politicians refuse to certify President Joe Biden's victory. Finchem maintains he was speaking at a rally that day, remained 500 yards from the Capitol, and did not know about the Capitol breach until later that day, the AP reports.
