MSP Investigating State Rep. After Complaint: Report

MICHIGAN — Michigan State Police said on Wednesday they are investigating a complaint against Republican Rep. Steve Marino of Harrison Township, according to a report from The Detroit News. "I can confirm that we received a complaint late yesterday that we are looking into," Shanon Banner, a spokeswoman for MSP told The Detroit News. "Because it is ongoing and in the very early stages, we will not be providing further comment." Speculation about the compliant rose on Wednesday afternoon when Democratic Rep. Mari Manoogian of Birmingham and House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski released a statement on Twitter regarding House Speaker Jason Wentworth's decision to remove Marino from his committee assignments. In her statement, Manoogian indicated that Marino had been stripped of his duties due to "threats of public shaming." She also said in the statement "that none of us are immune to a volatile relationship, regardless of our career," while asking for privacy. Lasinski said safety comes first and that she stands with Rep. Manoogian in her request for privacy. "Our caucus is acutely aware of the challenges that come with being a female elected official and will not tolerate any threats of abuse retribution and public embarrassment that are used to intimidate women," Lasinski said.
