Charter School in the Pasadena/Altadena area hiring for a Custodian/Maintenance position Position purpose Custodians/Maintenance work to make sure that all types of buildings are neat, clean, free from clutter and safe. Duties/Responsibilities/Functions/Tasks Custodians/Maintenance duties include picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, or using industrial cleaning equipment to clean floors, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, making sure buildings are secure, cleaning windows, and minor building maintenance and repairs. • Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out the trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces • Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets • Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap) • Wipe mirrors and windows • Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing the lawn, cleaning entrances • Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests • Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.) • Report major damages and oversee repairs • Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm • Undertake custodial and janitorial tasks (lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.) • Landscaping duties on and around the property. • Minor maintenance repairs • Minor plumbing work • Basic electrical repairs • Maintenance of AC Units • Monitor elevators for good working conditions and being up to code • Perform routine measures to ensure building security Qualifications • Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices • Attention to detail and conscientiousness • Very good physical condition and strength • High school diploma/GED Preferences • Interpersonal Skills: Most likely, you will be working with a team of other custodians. Many custodians work during the day, while company employees are working. Being friendly and pleasant will help you in your job. • Mechanical Skills: Custodians need to understand how to work industrial equipment like floor buffers, industrial floor washers, and fix small building problems, like leaky faucets or faulty light switches. Work Requirements • Strength and Stamina: You will need to lift heavy objects and spend most of your time on your feet. • This type of work will involve walking, standing or sitting for extended periods. · Stooping, squatting, kneeling, overhead reaching and repetitive bending may be involved frequently with this position. · Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment, and handle work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
