What would have played out if the recall worked?

If the recall actually worked and it became clear that the majority of the state would be voting "yes", Gavin Newsom would have resigned sometime prior to 8pm on election night. A resignation by Gavin would have instantly handed power over to the Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis. She would immediately take office and the recall would have become obsolete (nullified) even on election day. There was never any chance of the recall working or removing the democrats from office. If Newsom had resign to believe he would be recalled, a simple resignation before the official end of voting would have saved the governor seat for the democrats. The recall would not have applied to Eleni Kounalakis. One more reason why the recall was a lame idea from the get go.
