We depend on the passion of volunteers to complete our mission. Just a few hours of your day will make a difference. Volunteers help with check-in, water stations, information, and much more. Volunteer at a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event and make sure that no one fighting breast cancer has to walk alone. What is Making Strides Against Breast Cancer? Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting communities with a shared determination to help free the world from the pain and suffering of breast cancer. Passionate walk participants raise critical funds that enable the American Cancer Society to fund innovative research; provide free, information and support to anyone touched by breast cancer; and help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable. How Can I help? We need volunteers to help support our 20th annual Making Strides of Oregon & SW Washington walk on Saturday October 16th, at Daimler Trucking North American - 4555 N Channel Ave, Portland, OR. We are in need of volunteers to assist with the following roles: Volunteer Check inVendor Check inDay of event setup/décor Street Directors/CheerleadersEntrance cheerleaders Drive In Photo BoothGames & Activities Survivor Tent Set up Survivor TentClean Up Crew*Volunteer role descriptions can be found on the registration page Where is the Walk Held? The walk will be held at Daimler Trucking North American - 4555 N Channel Ave, Portland, OR on Sunday, October 16th, 2021. The walk begins at 10:00 am. Volunteers shifts will vary depending on the assigned task. How does American Cancer Society help in the fight against Breast Cancer? Groundbreaking Cancer Research - We’re investing in cutting-edge breast cancer research to better understand, prevent, find, and treat the disease. Comprehensive Support - One in every two women newly diagnosed with breast cancer turns to us for help and support. The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer. Each event is a noncompetitive 3 to 5 mile walk that brings people together to make a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. The events raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable. From the opening ceremony to the post-walk entertainment, a Making Strides event is a celebration of survivors and opportunity to remember loved-ones lost. It's a day that shouldn't be missed and won't be forgotten.
