Sukkot - Grape Juice Making Party! Alberta Shul Sukkot Grape Juice Canning Workshop and Party! Sunday, September 26th, 11 am - 7pm. Outside with the Sukkah, in Eleyna’s Secret Garden Learn how to make and can grape juice to drink & share on any Shabbat or Chag. It’s like nothing you’ve ever tasted. Shelf stable! Lasts for years! You'll learn how to make Annie Rose's Magic Grape Juice and Lazy Lassie's Sparkling Grape. We'll play around with the steam juicer, direct juicing, and other things to do with grape juice, too. It’s the easiest canning project and so much fun. Oh, and shake the lulav and smell the strange citrus in the Sukkah too! Want to know the secret ingredient? Gleaned grapes! Every year’s batch is different based on what kinds of grapes show up in the pot. Have some grapes growing in your yard? Bring ‘em! Do your neighbors have some grapes growing in their yard? Your neighbor’s neighbors? Bring them too! Ask first! So much fruit goes to waste and it’s wonderful to turn it into a jar of beautiful deliciousness. Your assignments between now and September 26th: - Find and pick some ripe grapes. We’ll use as much as you bring. Just pick them, rinse them off, then stick ‘em in a plastic bag in your freezer. - If you know of a grape vine that needs picking, but can’t do it yourself, or want some help with a big vine, let us know. - If you see free or cheap mason jars or rings, snag ‘em (Under $0.50 is a good price. If you want to contribute a small amount towards canning supplies you can.) Helpful things if you have them: - Powerful propane stove - Canning pots, jar tongs, etc. - Massive pots - Big colanders - New narrow mouth and wide mouth lids - Big stirring spoons / ladles - Potato Mashers or other implements to squish things We’ll be hanging out all day do doing the canning, so feel free to come by any time, but please RSVP so we know how many to expect. It will be outside, and we will be following best Covid practices at the time, and masking outside if that is recommended. If you have elected not to get vaccinated, please join us next year and don’t come this year. Bring the kids! Wear clothes you can get stained!
