Thursday Evening (October 14th): Babette’s Feast: 7pm (102 minutes) Nourishing both the senses and the religious imagination with its profound representation of food and eating, the Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film remains the gold standard for food films. National Catholic Reporter Friday Evening (October 15th): Raise the Red Lantern: 6:30pm (125 minutes) One of Yimou's two or three masterpieces, this visually stunning film offers an extraordinary view of gender, sexuality, female rivalry and bonding in a historical context (1920s China) that bears some political relevance to the present time. Emanuel Levy Saturday (October 16th): Boy: 1pm (88 minutes) A beautiful, heart-warming film that will be relatable to teens and will remind anyone older of a time when they too were trying to make sense of the world. Common Sense Media Rules of the Game: 6pm (110 minutes) There are about a dozen genuine miracles in the history of cinema, and one of them is Jean Renoir's supreme 1939 tragi-comedy The Rules of the Game. Chicago Tribune. Sunday (October 17th) Leviathan: 1pm (141 minutes) If anyone is curious what life is like for the average battler in Vladimir Putin's Russia, Leviathan, the masterly new film from director Andrey Zvyagintsev, offers some revealing and disturbing answers. The Australian Volver: 6:45pm (121 minutes) It's a playful soap-opera, mad with colour and crazy twists. It's a ghost story that won't give you the chills. And most importantly of all, it's yet another fine movie from Spanish master Pedro Almodovar. Herald Sun Refreshments for all films provided by Friends of the Friendswood Library
