Description

This Black Fine Art Month Salon Talk explores how we can create a more inclusive portrait of history through African American art. Join Pigment International for its third annual celebration of Black Fine Art Month. In this first 2021 public presentation, panelists will discuss how we create a more inclusive and complete portrait of America’s history through art. What histories and stories are missing? What responsibility do we have? How can we create the context and framework for our shared histories? As Kehinde Wiley spoke about his new monument in Richmond Virginia, “…I think that artists have that unique responsibility to use that energy for something else. I think that what this thing represents is not just a story about race or gender but a story about openness. It’s a story about America 2.0. This is consequential on a scale that goes beyond museum walls. This is every artist’s dream…” This Salon Talk will be featured on Pigment’s YouTube Channel, Pigment’s Podcast, “Black Canvas” and in the Pigment Magazine.
