SLINGSHOT WEEKENDER with LEGENDARY TECHNO PRODUCER JUAN ATKINS, WASHED OUT (DJ SET), ELA MINUS (DJ SET) AND MORE! (Vax Card or Neg Test Req) Slingshot, the international nexus for music, technology and electronic arts in the South, is moving to Durham for its fifth edition and beyond. Slingshot’s reputation to annually deliver the best experience in nextwave music, art, and technology is unrivaled, and after four successful years in Athens, Ga., Slingshot is headed to Durham. Here's the IG To start Slingshot will present a Weekender with legendary techno producer Juan Atkins (Sat), who is widely credited as the originator of techno music. A major electronic music pioneer from Detroit, Juan appeared behind aliases such as Cybotron, Model 500 and Infiniti, and has released many classics of sublime Detroit techno, including the 1982 electro track “Clear”. Recorded by Atkins and Rick Davis as Cybotron, this track is often considered the first proto-techno track. Alongside is a DJ set by Washed Out (Fri), the famed producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene (Washed Out). Life of Leisure, the first Washed Out EP, set the bar for the Chillwave-era, shimmering in a warm haze of off-the-cuff Polaroids pre-IG filters. Also alongside is a DJ Set Ela Minus (Sat). The Colombia-born and raised, NYC based musician Ela Minus writes, performs, produces and records her music entirely alone. She designs software-based synths, builds hardware synthesizers, and as a self-imposed rule, no sound in her work is generated inside a computer. Then, there is a long list of some of the regions leading electronic musicans working in techno, ambient, garage, IDM and more.
