Description

We will work with CalAcad scientists Alison Young & Rebecca Johnson, & local naturalists to i.d. invertebrates on settling plates and docks. We will work with CalAcad scientists Alison Young & Rebecca Johnson, & local naturalists to survey invertebrates in our oceanized tidal lagoon. We will observe all public health requirements for a safe event and we will limit participants in the area. Wear a mask. The boating center will be in operation, so we need to be careful not to inconvenience the recreation staff and participants, or get in the way of classes, canoes, kayaks and equipment. We will meet at the edge of the parking lot on Bellevue Avenue as shown in the image. Settling plates will be brought to the location for viewing. A few people at a time will be able to explore docks that are regularly locked and not used by the public. Open to fully-vaccinated people and younger children who are ineligible for vaccines with their parents. Depending on turn-out, we can explore the rocky area by the Sailboat house Marsh. The Rotary Nature Center Friends is a citizen’s group advocating for the Rotary Nature Center in Lakeside Park as an interpretive education and science center for all the people of Oakland and as the Steward for the Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge.
