Description
TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury's Board of Selectmen could soon have a new, gender-neutral name if three articles on the town meeting warrant pass.
Oct. 5 special town meeting voters will decide whether to change the board to the Select Board and the board chairman to the chair.
The change is split between three articles, 12, 13 and 14, because the name would be separately changed in the Town Charter, the General Bylaws and the Zoning Bylaws. To change the charter, Tewksbury will also need state approval.
A number of other municipalities around the state have changed their Boards of Selectmen and Aldermen's names in recent years, with the state consistently giving its okay. Andover switched over to a Select Board in 2019.
The full warrant is available here.
