NEW YORK CITY — All charter school staff across New York City will have to get a coronavirus vaccine jab, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday. De Blasio announced staff at 203 charter school buildings not owned by the Department of Education are required to get their shots starting Sept. 27. The mandate lines up with sweeping requirement for all public school employees — a rule that already applied to teachers, principals and other workers at 191 charter buildings under DOE control, de Blasio said. "We know that when all the adults in the building are vaccinated it keep everyone safe and it helps move us forward and allows us to do the amazing things that we're going to be doing to reach our kids," he said. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a coronavirus vaccine mandate will expand to all charter school staff starting Sept. 27. (NYC Mayor's Office)De Blasio has steadily stepped up vaccine mandates for city workers and many indoor public spaces — a process he calls "climbing the ladder." The process has boosted vaccinations as the coronavirus' delta variant spread, but prompted backlash from some New Yorkers.
