NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The office of New York Attorney General Letitia James is hosting a community gun buyback program, in collaboration with the New Rochelle Police Department. The event, being put on in partnership with Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah and County Executive George Latimer will be held on September 17, at the Bethesda Baptist Church (71 Lincoln Ave, in New Rochelle) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A menu of no-questions-asked gun-for-cash payouts, includes: Assault rifle: $250.Handgun: $150.Rifle or shotgun: $75.Non-working or antique gun: $25. Payments will be made by prepaid gift card at the site. If you turn in a working handgun or assault rifle, you can receive an iPad (one per person, subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis). Guns must be unloaded and placed in a plastic bag, a paper bag or a box. To transport a gun, it must be unloaded and in the trunk in a plastic bag, paper bag or box. Anyone can surrender as many firearms as they wish. No identification is required; this is an amnesty program. No questions will be asked. Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible to participate in this program.
