NEW HYDE PARK, NY — After a two-year hiatus, The Village of New Hyde Park's Annual Street Fair will be returning on Saturday, Sept. 18. Back for its 24th year, the street fair draws thousands of visitors to Jericho Turnpike for shopping, dining, live music, and carnival games and prizes. The event was canceled in 2019 and 2020 due to road work and the COVID-19 pandemic, respectively. "We're going to go big, go bold, and do what we can do to have the best day possible," New Hyde Park Village Mayor Christopher Devane told Patch. "It's going to be safe and it's going to be fun." This year's fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jericho Turnpike, between New Hyde Park and Lakeville roads. The street will be filled with craft vendors selling jewelry, clothes, and art, as well as businesses selling food from all over the world. A section of the turnpike will feature a carnival with children's rides. At the west end of the strip, there will be live music by DJ Ray McKnight (from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and the band Lampshade for Hiding (1 to 4 p.m.). Event organizers encourage attendees to social distance whenever possible and to wear a face covering — especially if they are unvaccinated. "We want the public to know it's OK to come out and it's OK to do it safely," Devane said. "We want to have fun again. Let's laugh together, let's see people we haven't seen in a while, and let's patronize our businesses."
