GREENFIELD, WI — A truckload of supplies for Afghan refugees departed from Greenfield this morning, bound for Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, CBS 58 reported. Concerned Veterans for America Foundation organized the donation effort. Local veterans went around collecting donations during Labor Day weekend, the report said. Over $100,000 worth of supplies was rounded up for Afghan refugees, the report said. "It's very important to us that those who put on the line to help us, stay safe and help bring more Americans home alive," Sam Rogers, a U.S. veteran, told CBS 58 News about the donations. The donation effort is only one prong of a larger effort to help the thousands of people who evacuated from Afghanistan in recent weeks. The refugees who have arrived at Fort McCoy come after the full U.S. military evacuation of the country, ending the longest war in the nation's history. In recent weeks Governor Tony Evers encouraged Wisconsinites to donate to the evacuees. A host of organizations have stepped up to manage the process, The Cap Times reported. Looking to donate?
