MANCHESTER, CT — A four-car crash in Manchester Tuesday afternoon left two people with what police described as life-threatening injuries. The crash at West Center and McKee streets was first reported at 4:25 p.m. Police said four vehicles were involved and four people in all were taken to area hospitals. Manchester police and Metro Traffic Services said the investigation should last into the night. Police said a preliminary investigation showed that one vehicle was traveling eastbound on West Center Street near the intersection of McKee Street and veered into the oncoming lane of westbound traffic, striking a vehicle head-on. Two westbound vehicles behind the vehicle that struck head-on were then also struck, police said. The driver of the first vehicle, described by police as an "adult male," sustained "significant" life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver of the second vehicle, an adult female, also sustained significant life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, police said. The operator of the third vehicle [an adult male] and passenger [an adult female] sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The operator of the forth vehicle [an adult female] was uninjured. Speed appears to have been a factor in this collision, police said. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information can contact Ofc. Jonathan Sargolini at 860-643-3342.
