ACROSS COLORADO — If you're among the many Coloradans who are preparing to drive into the mountains to view fall foliage, you may be in for some sticker shock at the gas pump.
Gas prices reached a 7-year high this year, according to a recent AAA report. As of Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of gas in the United States was $3.17.
How much can you expect to pay at the pump in your county? If you're heading into the mountains, make sure to fill up beforehand. And if you're on a road trip, fill up after you cross Colorado's borders before you hit the metro areas.
Here's a look at the Colorado counties with the highest and lowest average gas prices:

If you take a trip to the western United States, you'll likely be paying some of the highest gas prices in the nation. Gas prices have been reaching as much as $4.24 in California, $3.67 in Nevada and $3.64 in Washington state.
Meanwhile, Southern states including Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Missouri are enjoying the nation's lowest gas prices, ranging from $2.72 to $2.87 per gallon.
