Press release from the New Haven Unified School District: September 13, 2021 The e-News is a weekly newsletter from the New Haven Unified School District that highlights student and staff achievement and provides information on upcoming events. We Need Your Help! Generally, schools are funded based on the number of students that are enrolled in a school district and how often they come to school. There are additional pots of money available to support groups of students that have traditionally needed additional support such as foster, homeless, and students whose family income falls below a certain level. For each of these students, the district and school sites receive additional funding. Historically, the State has used the number of families that qualify for free or reduced cost school meals to determine our level of additional funding. Due to COVID-19, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued nationwide waivers to allow schools to provide free school meals to all students. As you can imagine, because of this waiver, we have seen significantly fewer families complete the Educational Benefit Form. Because fewer families have completed an Educational Benefit Form, we have actually seen a couple of schools become no longer eligible to receive these additional funds. There is still time to apply. If you believe your family may be eligible for Free or Reduced-Price meals, please consider completing the Educational Benefit application by clicking here. If you would like more information about this program or information about additional benefits you may qualify for, please click here.
