SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Service members aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton are continuing their training this week, and the work is loud across Temecula and nearby cities.
The Marines are firing high explosive munitions in training areas of the base near Southwest Riverside County. Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away, according to base officials.
The cities of Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Menifee, Canyon Lake and nearby unincorporated areas are within the sound range.
The training exercises are scheduled through Thursday, from approximately 6 a.m. until midnight each day, according to officials.
