AGUANGA, CA — A motorcyclist killed when he skidded off Highway 371 in Aguanga and crashed on a hillside was identified Tuesday as a local resident.
Joshua Bellows, 43, was fatally injured about 4:55 p.m. Monday on northbound 371, just south of Breach Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Bellows was riding a 2013 Harley Davidson on the two-lane highway when he encountered a slower-moving vehicle and went around it, crossing double yellow lines.
Officer Mike Lassig said the Harley veered onto the dirt shoulder in the opposing traffic lane and "traveled up and over an embankment."
"The motorcyclist failed to maintain control, causing the motorcycle to impact the dirt and brush area just west of the highway," Lassig said.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved.
Aguanga is an unincorporated area about 18 miles east of Temecula.
